How can I use a SHA2 hash, and get a linear distribution over N partitions?

I need to take a list of SHA2 hashes, and evenly distribute them over N nodes/partitions.

Would the function of Mod(Sha2Byte/N) satisfy this requirement?

How would I implement this in C#?
