Wondering about the sample function in r

When people use sample function, I can easily see that they make the code like this

(In case, generate 4 samples between 1 to 10 with no replacement.)

Sample(1:10, 4).

But I can get the same result using 'sample(10,4)'.

I am wondering why people put '1: ' in the x position?
