Similar to everything else in OpenSSL, I find the documentation for OpenSSL Engines and Random Number Generation thoroughly confusing and lacking in details. I was wondering if anyone can point me to some more enlightening resources for the same. My searches on Google and Bing did not help much.
In particular, I am trying to use the RAND_bytes API of OpenSSL, but I want to try it with various Random Number Generating Engines. Where can I get other Engine implementations?
Is there a recommended way of generating Random bytes and adding entropy in OpenSSL? I know NIST has these recommendations on algorithms to use, but I am looking for equivalent APIs or examples in OpenSSL. I will appreciate any help on this. Thanks.
