Random number allocation to slots

Suppose we have a set of random numbers between "a" and "b". We have "m" slots. How can we allocate the numbers to these slots such that the sum of the numbers in each slot is a fixed value of "N". Of course, we can have a tolerance. Is there any algorithm for this problem? It seems like this should be a benchmark problem in statistics, however, I can't find any algorithm for this problem.
